Best Firefox Add-ons & Extensions for Privacy & Security
These are the best extensions for making the Firefox web browser as private and secure as possible.
We have already covered how you can make your Mozilla Firefox web browser a lot more private and secure just by tweaking some of the built-in settings.
But if you really want to stay safe online, you shouldn’t stop with the options menu.
You’ll want to add some of the best Firefox’s privacy add-ons into the mix.
Installing these add-ons is fast and requires no extra configuration, and it’ll take your online privacy and security to the next level!
Best Firefox Privacy Add-ons and Extentions
Without further ado, here are the top 6 privacy- and security-focused extensions we recommend you install for Firefox.
uBlock Origin not only blocks ads, it can block things like scripts, trackers, and malware.
- Get it now at https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/ublock-origin/
HTTPS Everywhere will automatically use a secure, encrypted SSL connection with any website you visit that supports it.
Privacy Badger is more effective at blocking trackers from ads and third parties than Firefox’s built-in tracker blocking.
Cookie AutoDelete, well, automatically deletes cookies when you close a browser tab, to keep them from following you around the internet.
Decentraleyes offers even more tracker blocking and works great in conjunction with uBlock Origin (above).
- Get it now at https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/decentraleyes/
The proxy extension from NordVPN not only blocks ads, it lets you change your IP address from within Firefox.
Even after changing all of the settings and installing the extensions detailed above, you’re still vulnerable without a VPN. NordVPN is our top-rated VPN and will encrypt your web traffic and disguise your IP, no matter what site you’re visiting.
A Note on Privacy vs. Convenience
By installing the above add-ons and changing your Firefox settings, you’re going to greatly improve your online privacy and security, but you will be sacrificing a little convenience.
For instance, with the Cookie AutoDelete add-on enabled, each time you close a tab in Firefox, you’ll be logged out of any account you may have been accessing. If you close the Firefox window with “Never remember history” enabled, you’ll be logged out of everything.
Again, this is excellent for your privacy, but it can be a little inconvenient to constantly re-log into the same accounts if you’re the kind of person who likes to check their email or notifications every 5 minutes. But the increased security is worth it – plus, a good password manager can really help minimize log-in times.
