NordVPN and IPVanish are two VPN services we consider reliable and recommend, depending on your specific needs.

Maybe you whittled down your short list to these two VPN services after checking out our Compare All VPN Services table or after reading our in-depth reviews of both NordVPN and IPVanish.

Whatever your reasons for wanting to compare NordVPN vs IPVanish, here’s the scoop when they are compared side-by-side.

NordVPN is better than IPVanish for …

  • Jurisdiction. NordVPN is based in Panama, outside the reach of pesky laws in the USA and Europe. IPVanish is based in the USA (boo).
  • Risk-free money-back guarantee period. NordVPN has a 30-day “try before you buy” money-back guarantee period versus only 7 days for IPVanish.
  • Price. NordVPN’s plans are cheaper than IPVanish.
  • Unique, one-of-a-kind features. Only NordVPN has the oh-so-cool exclusive features of Double VPN & Onion Router over VPN). Read more.
  • Zero-logging claims. NordVPN’s no-logging claims have not yet been tested in open court, but so far there is no reason to doubt them. In contrast, IPVanish provided logs to the FBI to help with an investigation. IPVanish forcefully argues that incident related to previous ownership and that it is now a zero-logging provider. For now, we have to give NordVPN better marks for zero-logging. Read more about zero-logging. Plus, NordVPN is given higher marks for privacy than IPVanish from ThatOnePrivacySite.
  • More servers. NordVPN now has a whopping 5,500 servers while IPVanish has only 1,000 servers.
  • More countries. This is close, but NordVPN also has servers located in more countries than IPVanish. NordVPN has servers in 59 countries compared to 60 for IPVanish.

IPVanish is Better than NordVPN for ...

  • Number of devices connected at the same time. IPVanish allows an industry-leading 10 devices to be connected at the same time compared to 6 for NordVPN.

  • Price per device. If you intend to connect the maximum number of devices at the same time, IPVanish’s price per device works out to be lower than NordVPN thanks to their 10 vs 5 device advantage above.

NordVPN vs IPVanish are about the same for ….

  • Software and apps. Both VPN services have well-designed apps for all major devices and operating systems.

  • Speeds. Remember that VPN speeds depend on many factors, so take advantage of the money-back guarantees offered by these VPN services to fully test them out. In our speeds tests, NordVPN and IPVanish perform about the same.

  • Support for p2p torrent file-sharing. Both NordVPN and IPVanish allow their customers to torrent on their VPN servers.

  • Killswitch. Both NordVPN’s and IPVanish’s apps have a killswitch which will immediately cut your connection and protect your IP address from being exposed should the VPN go down for any reason.

  • DNS leak protection. Both NordVPN and IPVanish protect your IP address from DNS leaks. Read more about DNS leaks

The Winner of NordVPN vs IPVanish?

Unless the number of devices you plan to use at the same time is your primary consideration for choosing a VPN service, NordVPN clearly beats out IPVanish.

Don’t get us wrong, IPVanish is still a top-tier VPN service which you can be proud to sign up for.

But feature-for-feature and dollar-for-dollar, NordVPN represents the better choice.

  1. I’d go with NordVPN merely because it’s based outside the US. I think it’s definitely less likely to give up your data to government if asked. Also, there’s more servers and it’s cheaper, so the winner is quite clear. In any case, whichever provider people go for, it’s already a good thing because it confirms that person is aware and cares about their privacy.
