But whether you’re a user yourself or just can’t avoid the videos that are shared all over the web, TikTok’s privacy policy and tracking leave a lot to be desired. Fortunately, there’s ProxiTok, an alternative private front-end for the popular app. And we’re going to tell you everything you need to know about it.

What is ProxiTok?
ProxiTok is a free, open-source front-end for TikTok.
It allows you to view TikTok videos, accounts, and even browse by tags or popularity, without submitting yourself to TikTok’s invasive tracking and ads. And you can use it on both your computer and your mobile device.
How to Use ProxiTok
While it is possible to host your own instance, most people will be fine with using one of the already available public instances.
The official instance is proxitok.pabloferreiro.es – but you can find others below.
Once there, you have a few different options. You can search for specific content using a TikTok url, username, tag, or more.
But if you’d rather just browse around and see what’s out there, you can use the Discover button…
Or Trending button, both of which are right below the search bar…
And choose what you’d like to see. Of course, this will not be the curated feed that you’d receive in the TikTok app – but that would require you to turn over tons of your personal data to the app and its algorithm, which is what ProxiTok is trying to avoid in the first place.

How to Convert TikTok Links
Now, the above instances will help you search for specific terms and profiles on TikTok, but what about when one of your friends sends you a link to a video?
By default, these links will still direct you to the normal TikTok app or site. But it’s possible to “redirect” them to ProxiTok using a variety of tools, depending on what device / OS you’re using.
Windows / Mac / Linux
These can be used on your computer, regardless of which OS you’re using.
- Libdirect: Includes handy add-ons for Firefox and Chromium
- Redirector: The Chrome extension requires slightly less setup than Libdirect, and there’s a Firefox one too
Android
While it is possible to use extensions like Libdirect on Android using the Firefox nightly build, there’s another option:
- UntrackMe: Will transform all of your TikTok links to ProxiTok in Android
iOS
We haven’t tested this method personally, but it seems it’s possible to use the Shortcut app combined with this ProxiTok shortcut created by Reddit user u/NorthPomogranate5385.
