The biggest cable provider in the UK and Ireland, Virgin Media, will be ending their free Usenet service starting on June 30th, 2021.
Of course, many VM customers were probably wondering “What the heck is Usenet?” when they got the news via email. We’re guessing only a small portion of their 5+ million broadband subscribers actually took advantage of the service.
For those that did, however, it was a solid provider for what it offered. Though the 8 days of retention is on the low end, it’s fine if you’re only looking for the latest content. And hey, free is free, right?
Fortunately, there are still much better services out there, where you’ll find up to 4,600+ days of retention at very reasonable prices. You can find our picks for the top European Usenet providers here, all of which are great alternatives to your formerly-free Virgin Media Usenet plan.
